Cigna Switches To Digital ID Cards

Cigna Switches To Digital ID Cards

Cigna announced that they will transition to digital ID cards by 2024.  The shift comes under the plans digital-first solutions initiative.

Patients may share their digital Cigna ID card by:

  • Physically by showing the digital image to the provider or healthcare professionals from their device.
  • Presenting a hard copy printed image of their digital card in person.
  • Uploading it through the patient portal (if applicable).
  • Sending a secure email, direct to the office or office staff.

Some Cigna members may continue to receive printed ID cards depending on their plan type. We encourage all provider practices to check patient coverage before and during each visit.

Whether the patient presents their ID card digitally or in print, it is critical that benefits and eligibility are checked.  Routine patient coverage checks will increase clean claim submission and decrease the turnaround time on reimbursement!
